A celebrated quilt artist in Japan, Ms. Yoko Saito is well-known for her detailed work and unique use of "taupe color."  She learned to quilt after seeing antique quilts in America and has been inspired over the years to create her own style and designs.  A prolific author of quilt books, she also designs fabric and her patterns are often seen in Japanese quilt and crafting magazines.  In addition, she appears in various media, and has even had her own television series, "Fashion Workshop", broadcast by NHK TV.  She serves as an instructor at the NHK Culture Center, Nihon Vogue Gakuen and is a member of the Japan Needelwork Exhibit.  She currently owns/runs a quilt shop and school called "Quilt Party", in Chiba Prefecture, not too far outside of Tokyo.

Yukari Takahara     Yukari Takahara

Yukari Takahara was born in Kyoto. She graduated from University with a degree in art. In 1992, after teaching in both elementary and middle schools, she and her husband moved back to his hometown. They opened a picture book gallery using their own personal collection. The gallery grew to include a cafe, and a gift and quilt shop called Yuufu-sha. Ms. Takahara teaches crafts and painting from her studio at the same location. In addition to their own art work and activities, they hold many events at Yuufu-sha throughout the year.

Reiko Kato   Reiko Kato

Quilt designer and master teacher from Japan, Reiko Kato, is well-known for her fun and whimsical modern twist on Sunbonnet Sue designs. Teaching since 2000, her students continue to learn from her emphasis on precision in handwork. Many of her students’ completed works are in regular exhibits that Ms. Kato coordinates. Her quilt shop, Mother’s Dreams, is located in Naka-Kasai in Tokyo.
